Effective treatment of musculoskeletal conditions through real-time

March 15,2021

The musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions comprise approximately 22 percent of the world’s morbidity. More than 25 percent of the global population is suffering from the disability and pain of musculoskeletal diseases. Such MSK issues are affecting the productivity and economic growth of the world.

These diseases limit the agility and mobility of the patients affecting their abilities to perform their work efficiently and continuously. The increasing population and overall low mortality rates are also causing an increase in the number of patients with MSK conditions.

In addition to that, the cost of healthcare to patients with MSK disabilities is constantly growing as well. The economic burden faced by the western government demands a cost-effective alternative. Different initiatives such as community-based health facilities funded by the government have been employed to help with this economic situation. Although these initiatives have reduced the economic burden to some extent, the geographical restrictions still hinder the timely therapy and care for patients.

In 2017, WHO introduced the initiative of Rehabilitation 2030 to declare the need for immediate action to strengthen the rehabilitation services and healthcare systems in order to meet current and future needs. Today’s world is equipped with the internet in all fields of life and healthcare is no exception. Telerehabilitation encompasses the digital provision of synchronous rehabilitation facilities that serve beyond any geographical restrictions. It plays a significant role in providing long-term effective, accessible, and affordable healthcare. It is indeed a pragmatic approach to solve the issues of timely healthcare for musculoskeletal patients.

Telerehabilitation undeniably provides many benefits to the patients and the providers:

  • Effective care delivery and patient engagement
  • Low-Cost alternative
  • Timely therapy sessions
  • Accessible healthcare for everyone
