Exercises to Improve mobility at home

March 30,2021

Stroke survivors have to continue exercises at home even after the recovery at the rehab clinics. The best rehabilitation results can be observed when the patients activate their neuroplasticity; it allows the brain to recover physical mobility skills after the injury. And this process takes time so patients have to be consistent and patient with their therapies.

Now the digital telehealth platforms such as BlueJay Mobile Health offer the digital platform to the people to schedule an online appointment with their providers. The providers are even able to track the compliance of the patients to the prescribed home exercise programs (HEPs) through a digital solution like BlueJay Engage.

Following are few exercises that help to improve mobility at home.

To improve the mobility of the shoulders

First, lie on your bed. Then intertwine your fingers while your hands are on your stomach. Then while keeping the elbows straight, lift your arms to your shoulders. Now take your arms back to the initial position. Repeat this exercise to alleviate the shoulder pain and increase shoulders’ mobility.

To reduce knee pain

Sit on a chair and lift your right leg parallel to the floor. Then put your leg back on the floor slowly. Repeat the exercise with your left leg. Remember, your pain will eventually reduce if you will stay persistent with your exercise routine.

To ease stiffness in the body

Sit on a chair. Interlace your hands and while keeping your feet on the floor, bend to reach the outside of your foot. Then lift your hands following a diagonal path to reach your right shoulder while keeping the elbows straight. Repeat the exercise and this time move towards your left shoulder. Remember to rotate your lower body when you bend to reach your foot.

To strengthen the wrist muscles

Take a water bottle in your hand while keeping your arm on a table. Stretch your hand down and then curl it up. Repeat this exercise 10 times with each hand. The recovery of hand movements is very slow so be very patient to see actual improvements.

The one thing that ensures the best rehabilitation is the continuity of the recommended exercises. Therefore, be compliant with HEP and wait for success.
